Human Rights Day – UWAC

University Women’s association of Calcutta (UWAC) observed the United Nation’s Human Rights Day on the 18th of December. A Panel discussion on ‘Women’s Rights are Human Rights – Implementation and Action’ was held by Dr Kavita Panjabi an eminent professor of Jadavpur University, Calcutta from the department of Comparative Literature and Gender Studies along with Koely Roy, an activist working with the Women’s Studies Research Center Calcutta University. It was a lively discussion where the panellists dealt with forms of discrimination against women as a violation of Human rights. The discussion achieved in promoting awareness on the issues and problems in women’s lives where human rights and women’s rights do not prevail and are conspicuous by its absence. Members from the Soroptimist International Club and the Inner Wheel clubs were also invited to join.
